FAQ
What platform do you use for virtual therapy?
JaneApp. It’s a Canadian-owned software company that is user friendly and complies with federal/ provincial privacy laws. Users (you) don’t pay to use it.
Do you use AI in therapy?
No. In my opinion, AI does not have enough protections for private information or ethical use in therapy. Some of the platforms I use have the option to integrate AI features (Gmail, JaneApp, etc.). As long as those AI features are voluntary, I will not use them.
How much does a session cost?
Sessions are 55 minutes long and cost $160 (tax inclusive). You can pay via credit card on JaneApp or by e-transfer to [email protected]
Do you take insurance?
Most insurance programs in Canada cover psychotherapy provided by a registered social worker AND my full session fee– but you should confirm the specifics of your insurance program. I don’t offer direct billing at this time, but you can submit your receipts to be reimbursed.
What if I can’t afford therapy?
We can use your free consult to go over free, subsidized, affordable and/ or lower cost options. I also have a limited number of sliding scale spots.
What should I "bring" to the consult?
The consult is a free 15 minute phone chat to make sure we're a good fit before you invest. You can arrive to the consult with a really clear idea of what you're looking for and an agenda you would like to lead– or you can show up not knowing where to start and I'll facilitate. There is no single right way to show up.
What are your credentials?
I am a registered and licensed Masters of Social Work (RSW, MSW) who can perform the controlled act of Psychotherapy. I am required to complete ongoing professional development every year. I have always– and will always– focus my professional development on my specialties and the demographics I serve (and the problems that are most likely to bring them to therapy, which evolve over time). My work is informed by my lived experience, I belong to several of the communities I serve.
What modalities of therapy do you use?
I approach all therapy with person-centred, trauma informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive lenses. I currently use the modalities below regularly (this is not an exhaustive list of my training):
EMDR (coming soon!)
Rogerian Therapy
Narrative Therapy
Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed parts work
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Existential informed Therapy
Somatic informed Therapy
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
Motivational Interviewing (MI) & Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
What if I don't belong to the populations you work with?
Everyone is worthy of support– and no therapist can cultivate a deep understanding of everything. It’s important to be transparent about my skills so you can make informed decisions about your care.I respect your autonomy. If you want to work together, reach out and we'll chat. I still work successfully with clients outside my focus if I’m confident– after learning more in the consult– that I can do so competently.
Why just Ontario?
While virtual therapy could be provided to anyone with an internet connection, my social work license only applies to Ontario– including (but not limited to):
Toronto
Brampton
